Tarila Okorowanta — the man who scored Nigeria's first-ever goal at a FIFA World Cup — has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to offer him a position within the country's football structure, whether in coaching or administration.

Okorowanta etched his name into Nigerian football history when he netted the only goal as the Flying Eagles defeated the Soviet Union 1-0 in their Group B opener at the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship. That strike remains a landmark moment for Nigerian football.

A legend willing to serve

Four decades on, the 61-year-old — who most recently served as Team Manager at Bayelsa United — says he is ready to give back to the game in whatever capacity the NFF sees fit. He is particularly keen on a coaching role, citing a troubling decline across Nigeria's national teams.
