The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that Senegal's appeal against the stripping of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title will be heard on 8 October, with the proceedings set to take place behind closed doors at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Senegal filed the appeal on 25 March, challenging the Confederation of African Football's (Caf) decision to overturn the result of the final and hand hosts Morocco a 3-0 walkover victory.

How the final unravelled

Senegal had won the match 1-0 on the pitch in January, but the road to that result was anything but straightforward. With the scores level, Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty — prompting the Senegalese players to walk off the field in protest.

After a delay of around 17 minutes, both sides returned. Brahim Diaz's spot-kick was saved, and Senegal's Pape Gueye then struck the decisive extra-time goal to claim what appeared to be the title.

Caf subsequently ruled that Senegal had forfeited the final by leaving the pitch, declaring Morocco the tournament winners and awarding the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) a 3-0 scoreline.

No fast-track to a verdict

Caf and the FRMF declined to agree to an expedited procedure, meaning the case will follow the standard CAS timeline. The hearing will not be open to the public, as neither party requested a public session.

CAS has noted that a final ruling will not be delivered on the day of the hearing itself, and has not specified when a decision can be expected. Senegal are seeking to have Caf's ruling set aside and their status as Africa Cup of Nations champions reinstated.
