Arsenal have secured the services of England-born Nigerian full-back Habeeb Ogunneye, with the club confirming the deal on their official website on Sunday.

"We're pleased to announce the signing of talented young full-back Habeeb Ogunneye," Arsenal's statement read, noting that the teenager arrives with experience from Manchester United, Newport County, and England's under-17 side.

A full-circle moment

Ogunneye made no secret of his enthusiasm for the move, describing the transfer as an obvious decision once he learned of Arsenal's interest.

"It feels great to be here, it's such a big club," he said. "I've got family who live in Hackney, so it's literally a full-circle moment. It's fantastic [to have my family here]."

"When I heard [Arsenal] were interested in me, I said to my agents it's a no-brainer," he added. "Seeing all the young players that are coming through as well, so I just wanted to come straight away."

Ambitions at his new club

The young defender pointed to Arsenal's pipeline of developing talent as a key draw, expressing a desire to grow alongside his new teammates and push for results.

"I just wanted to be part of that group, and win games together. It's good playing with good players, good defenders — it's only going to better you," Ogunneye said.

Settling into life at the Emirates Stadium is now the priority for the full-back, who is determined to raise his level with each passing session. "[Now] I want to get better every day and we'll see what happens from there," he concluded.
