Christian Norgaard is overwhelmingly likely to remain at Arsenal this summer, despite having openly admitted that the Gunners would be his final club abroad before a return to Brondby, according to a report from Denmark.

The Danish midfielder made just seven Premier League appearances in his debut season at the Emirates Stadium, having arrived from Brentford — where he had played 34 times as club captain — the previous summer. That lack of gametime fuelled widespread speculation that Norgaard, 32, would be shown the door after only one year.

However, Tipsbladet journalist Farzam Abolhosseini has dismissed any notion of a departure, describing it as "not a possibility in this transfer window."

"I will be shocked if it happened. I think people sometimes forget just how big an Arsenal fan he is. You just have to look at those photos from a year ago, when he was introduced. His lifelong dream is coming true, and he gets to see his son wear the Arsenal jersey, when he himself has supported the club his whole life. I'm almost convinced he'd play for them for free. It means so much to him. From that perspective, I just can't see him being willing to leave."

Norgaard signed a two-year deal last summer, and in October acknowledged that Arsenal would be his last club outside Denmark. He stated he intended to return to Brondby once his contract expires, but also left the door open to triggering the optional third year — provided his situation at the club improved.

Midfield picture at Arsenal

Norgaard currently sits alongside Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and World Cup winner Martin Zubimendi in Arsenal's central midfield options. Manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly still keen to strengthen the engine room further, with FourFourTwo understanding that a move for Bruno Guimaraes remains active ahead of the new campaign.
