Nottingham Forest have made an enquiry to Sporting over the availability of centre-back Ousmane Diomande, with sources in Portugal confirming the Midlands club has registered interest in the Ivory Coast international.

The approach falls short of a formal bid, but multiple sources indicate that new Forest manager Oliver Glasner is the driving force behind the pursuit. Glasner previously attempted to bring Diomande to Crystal Palace during his stint in charge there.

Release clause and fee

Diomande, 22, holds a release clause of £68.2 million in his current Sporting contract. However, sources suggest the Portuguese club could be open to selling for a lower figure this summer, potentially making a deal more accessible for Forest.

Despite his age, Diomande has accumulated more than 150 senior appearances at club level, a remarkable milestone for a defender still in his early twenties. On the international stage, he has earned 15 caps for Ivory Coast and featured at the World Cup this summer.

High-profile interest and Forest's transfer activity

Diomande has previously attracted attention from Chelsea and has reportedly been linked with several other European clubs, underlining his reputation as one of the most sought-after young defenders on the continent.

Forest have yet to complete any incoming transfers ahead of the new season, having spent last campaign fighting off relegation to the Championship. The club has, however, raised funds through outgoing deals — most notably the £116 million sale of midfielder Elliot Anderson, as well as shipping defender David Carmo to Olympiacos for an undisclosed fee.
