Ipswich Town manager Gary O'Neil has spoken out against the handball law after a controversial incident involving Harry Maguire allowed a goal to stand during Manchester United's 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

O'Neil expressed his frustration after what he described as a blatant handling offence by Maguire went unpunished, with the ball ultimately deflecting in off Ipswich Town defender Jacob Greaves to be recorded as an own goal. Under current rules, the goal was deemed legal — a loophole O'Neil believes undermines the integrity of the game.

A goal that 'doesn't feel right'

The Ipswich Town boss made clear his disbelief at the outcome, arguing that the spirit of the law had been violated even if the letter of it had technically been satisfied.
