O'Neill Confirms Celtic Have Offered Iheanacho a New Contract
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has confirmed that the Scottish Premiership champions have put a formal contract offer to Kelechi Iheanacho, with negotiations ongoing over the Nigerian striker's return to Parkhead.
Iheanacho's initial deal with Celtic — a one-year agreement signed last September — expired at the end of last month. The club held an option to extend that arrangement by a further season, but failed to activate it before the deadline, making a fresh contract necessary.
Goals despite injuries
Despite a disrupted campaign in which injuries curtailed his playing time, Iheanacho left a clear mark on Celtic's season. The former Manchester City forward scored decisive goals against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian, and Motherwell, finishing the season with nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.
Qatar and Turkey interest set aside
The 28-year-old attracted attention from clubs in Qatar and Turkey during the negotiation period, but reports now indicate he is set to remain in Scotland and continue his career with Celtic.
