Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has sealed a return to Bendel Insurance, putting pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Nigeria Premier Football League club based in Benin City.

A homecoming confirmed

The Benin City side announced the signing via their official X account on Monday, describing the move as a reunion with a player who once wore the captain's armband. "Back where it all began," the club wrote. "Former captain and Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie returns and signs a one-year contract. Welcome home, Amas. The story continues."

Obasogie, 26, departed Bendel Insurance in 2024, heading east to join Ethiopian Premier League club Fasil Kenema Sport Club. He subsequently moved on to Tanzanian Premier League outfit Singida Black Stars before deciding to make his way back to the two-time Nigerian champions.

Obasogie's message to the fans

The shot-stopper did not hide his excitement, taking to Instagram to explain how life away from Bendel Insurance had shaped him. "Back to where part of my journey began. Sometimes, life takes you away so you can grow, learn, and become stronger," he wrote.

"Today, I'm grateful for the opportunity to return to my former team, not just as a player, but with more experience, hunger, and determination. I'm ready to give my all for the badge, the team, and the supporters. Back home, back to work. Let the journey continue."

Fond farewell to Singida Black Stars

Obasogie also took time to bid an emotional goodbye to Singida Black Stars, acknowledging what the Tanzanian club had meant to him. "It has been an honour to wear this badge and represent this great team. The memories, challenges, victories, and friendships I gained here will always remain special to me," he said.

"Though my journey with the club is coming to an end, Singida Black Stars will always have a special place in my heart. I wish the club nothing but success and greater achievements in the future. Once a star, always a star."

Africa Cup of Nations bronze medallist

Obasogie was part of the Super Eagles squad that claimed the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, adding continental recognition to his growing résumé. He has made one senior international appearance for the three-time African champions.
