Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard delivered a composed second-half winner to seal a 2-1 home victory over Chelsea, with Bukayo Saka also outstanding in a commanding display at the Emirates.

Chelsea's £117 million club-record signing Morgan Rogers gave the visitors a shock lead inside two minutes, finishing a first-time volley to silence the home crowd. The response, however, was swift.

Havertz turns the tide

Kai Havertz, playing against his former club, spurned a chance in the 23rd minute but made amends immediately, cutting inside to equalise two minutes later. Havertz also contributed to Odegaard's winner and remained a persistent threat from set-pieces throughout.

Odegaard put Arsenal in front early in the second half with a composed finish, capping an impressive individual display that also featured high-quality delivery from both open play and dead-ball situations. The Norwegian captain earned a rating of 8, alongside Saka, who drew free-kicks in dangerous areas and forced a sharp save from Emiliano Martinez with a second-half effort.

Arsenal's standout performers

On his first Arsenal start, Ezri Konsa won more duels than any other defender on the pitch and led the way for possession won in the first half. Riccardo Calafiori caused problems with adventurous underlapping runs and proved influential at set-pieces, while substitute Martin Zubimendi impressed after coming on in the 67th minute with dangerous shots and disciplined pressing.

Christos Tzolis offered Arsenal a reliable outlet on the break, delivering well from the left and keeping Josh Acheampong under pressure throughout.

Chelsea's bright spots

Rogers was Chelsea's most dangerous attacker, adding a curling effort narrowly wide in the 31st minute after his opening goal. Reece James hit a well-struck long-range shot in the 22nd minute that was saved, and Pedro Neto rattled the post with a brilliant curling effort just before half-time.

Cole Palmer, however, was largely kept quiet by Arsenal's midfield — he had one effort on target and was booked for a professional foul. Emiliano Martinez was beaten too easily at his near post for Havertz's equaliser, though he did produce a fine stop from Saka in the second half.

Substitute Estevao Willian came closest to snatching a point for Chelsea late on, but David Raya produced a stunning save to deny the Brazilian's sensational curling effort and preserve the win for Arsenal.
