Ogunmodede Takes the Helm at Kano Pillars Ahead of 2026/27 NPFL Season
Kano Pillars have confirmed Daniel Ogunmodede as their new technical adviser, with the four-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions announcing the agreement on their official X account ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The club welcomed Ogunmodede — popularly known as Ijaball — with a brief statement: "We've reached an agreement to appoint Daniel Ogunmodede (Ijaball) as our new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 football season. Welcome to Kano and the Sai Masu Gida family. We are happy to have you with us!"
The 46-year-old is set to sign a two-year contract with the Sai Masu Gida, ushering in a new chapter for one of Nigeria's most storied clubs.
A coach who delivered history
Ogunmodede arrives at Pillars on the back of a remarkable tenure at Remo Stars, where he led the Ikenne-based side to their first-ever NPFL title in the 2024/25 season — ending years of near misses for the club.
During his time in Ikenne, Remo Stars became one of the most recognisable outfits in Nigerian football, admired for their attacking approach and tactical discipline. The club also became regular participants in CAF interclub competitions under his watch.
He departed from Remo Stars towards the close of last season, leaving behind a transformed club that had grown into genuine title contenders. Beyond club football, Ogunmodede currently serves as one of the assistant coaches to Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle.
High expectations at Pillars
His arrival comes at a critical moment for Kano Pillars, who survived relegation on the final day of last season. The club's leadership will be hoping Ogunmodede can revive their fortunes and build a squad capable of competing for the NPFL title and earning a place in continental football.
Ogunmodede's track record of transforming clubs into competitive forces makes him an ambitious appointment for a historic side hungry to reclaim their place at the summit of Nigerian football.
