Palhinha Bids Farewell to Tottenham After Club Declines £22 Million Purchase Option
João Palhinha has confirmed he is leaving Tottenham Hotspur after the club chose not to activate the £22 million (€30m) permanent purchase option embedded in his loan agreement with Bayern Munich.
The Portuguese midfielder shared an emotional farewell message on Instagram, expressing gratitude to supporters and staff at the club.
A loan spell that mattered
Palhinha played a pivotal role in helping Spurs avoid relegation during his loan stint, yet Tottenham opted to redirect their transfer funds elsewhere. The club have moved to strengthen their midfield with signings including Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali instead.
A heartfelt goodbye
In a message posted to his Instagram account, Palhinha wrote: "Dear COYS, I am writing this message with heartfelt gratitude for all the kindness and support you have always shown me throughout my time at this special club."
"Representing Tottenham has had a profound impact on my life, not only professionally but also personally, and it is something I will carry with me forever."
He added: "London gave me more than a professional career, it gave me two homes that I will always carry in my heart. With the utmost respect and gratitude, I say goodbye to all of you. Thank you so much COYS."
What comes next for Palhinha
The 30-year-old remains contracted to Bayern Munich until 2028 and is widely expected to depart the German club ahead of the new season. A return to Sporting has been floated as a possible destination for the midfielder.
