Pape Matar Sarr Closing in on Galatasaray Move as Tottenham Reshape Midfield

Pape Matar Sarr is on the verge of leaving Tottenham Hotspur, with Galatasaray understood to be closing in on a deal for the Senegalese midfielder, according to a report from Africa Foot.
Sarr, 23, has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with the Turkish club after being presented with what sources describe as a lucrative offer. Talks between Tottenham and Galatasaray are said to be progressing well, and the transfer is now widely expected to be completed.
The midfielder joined Tottenham from Metz in 2022 as a highly-rated young prospect and made 26 Premier League appearances for the club last season. However, he managed barely over an hour of football under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, suggesting his future at the club was uncertain.
A midfield reshaped by big spending
Tottenham have committed well over £160 million this summer on midfield reinforcements, bringing in Matheus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. The arrivals of those two have effectively reshuffled the pecking order in the engine room, with De Zerbi understood to prefer a double-pivot setup.
Fernandes and Tonali are expected to form Tottenham's first-choice pairing, while Conor Gallagher, Archie Gray, and Rodrigo Bentancur provide additional cover. Lucas Bergvall, another young player inherited from the previous era, is also an option — though reports suggest he, too, could depart before the window closes.
Further forward, Tottenham have no shortage of options in the number ten role, with Mohammed Kudus, James Maddison, Xavi Simons, and Dejan Kulusevski all available to De Zerbi.
Turkish interest and squad trimming
Fenerbahce had previously been credited with an interest in Sarr earlier this year, according to Turkish outlet Takvim, but they now appear to have withdrawn from the race entirely, leaving Galatasaray as the frontrunners.
Transfermarkt values Sarr at €14 million. With Tottenham also reported to be pursuing Omar Marmoush and Savinho, trimming the squad before the season begins has become a priority. The club open their Premier League campaign against Brentford this weekend.
