Paraguay Slammed for 'Disgraceful' Display in 0-1 World Cup Loss to France

2 hours ago·1 min

BBC Sport pundits Joe Hart, Thomas Hitzlsperger, and Micah Richards rounded on Paraguay following their 0-1 defeat to France in the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup 2026, with Hart describing the South American side's performance as "an absolute disgrace."

The trio pulled no punches in their assessment of Paraguay's approach, criticising both the team's tactics and the conduct of individual players throughout the knockout tie.

France advanced to the quarter-finals courtesy of a solitary goal, with Paraguay offering little in response as the Europeans controlled large portions of the contest.

Hart, the former England goalkeeper, was particularly scathing, using unusually blunt language to condemn what he and his fellow pundits viewed as unacceptable behaviour from the Paraguayan camp during the match.

Hitzlsperger and Richards echoed those sentiments, adding their own criticism of the tactics deployed by Paraguay — a side that had qualified for the last 16 but appeared unable or unwilling to compete on the front foot against one of the tournament's leading nations.

The defeat brings Paraguay's FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign to an end, while France march on in their pursuit of the title.
