Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic has called on his players to extract positives from their 2-0 defeat to Switzerland, a result that ended the Desert Foxes' FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign at the Round of 32.
Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye struck early in each half to send Switzerland through to the Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive World Cup. The Swiss will remain in Vancouver, where they face either Colombia or Ghana on 7 July.
A turning point after the break
Petkovic identified the start of the second half as the match's decisive moment. Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, the Bosnian coach acknowledged the regret felt in the dressing room but refused to let it overshadow what he described as a landmark occasion for Algerian football.
