Tchouameni and Scott Top Man Utd's Summer Midfield Wishlist

Manchester United are intensifying their search for midfield reinforcements this summer, with Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni and Bournemouth's Alex Scott emerging as the two leading candidates on their shortlist.

The club's pursuit of midfield options gathered pace after Matheus Fernandes completed a £85 million move to Tottenham Hotspur this week. United's broader list of targets also features Felix Nmecha of Borussia Dortmund, Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille, and Fulham's Sander Berge.

Tchouameni situation complicated by Real Madrid's plans

Securing Tchouameni presents a notable challenge. Real Madrid are reshaping their own midfield and, while the Spanish club have distanced themselves from a move for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, they are also monitoring Rodri — though Manchester City are determined to keep him and want him to sign a new contract.

Reports from Spain suggest that if Real Madrid do need to free up midfield space, Eduardo Camavinga is more likely to depart than Tchouameni, making a deal for the France international difficult to engineer.

Scott a high priority, but Bournemouth resist

With Tchouameni's availability uncertain, Scott has become a high-priority alternative. Manchester United and Arsenal are considered frontrunners for his signature, though Bournemouth have made clear they have no desire to sell their best players and would prefer Scott to extend his current deal.

United have also stepped up their monitoring of Bouaddi, with the club conducting further checks on the 18-year-old Lille and Morocco midfielder this week. Bouaddi has impressed at the World Cup and faces Canada in the last 16 on Saturday. A deal for Atalanta's Ederson remains on course and is expected to be finalised after his World Cup campaign with Brazil concludes.

Summerville the priority on the left wing

Beyond midfield, Crysencio Summerville of West Ham remains United's preferred target for the left-wing role. The club have held preliminary talks with West Ham over a potential transfer, though several other Premier League clubs are also tracking the Netherlands international.

Summerville's future is likely to become clearer in the coming weeks following Netherlands' elimination from the World Cup at the hands of Morocco. United ideally want to fund any deal using proceeds from the sale of Marcus Rashford, who is set to return to Old Trafford after his post-tournament break — a timeline that could extend well into August depending on England's progress in the competition.

Tottenham Hotspur are also in contention for Summerville, and United are conscious that they risk being outmaneuvered by Spurs on another key target if they delay. There is also a possibility that Rashford remains at the club as a squad player under manager Michael Carrick.

Meanwhile, United's interest in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall has been placed on hold until their midfield recruitment is settled.
