Real Madrid to Hold Talks Over Vinicius Jr's Future Amid Arsenal Interest

50 minutes ago·3 min

Real Madrid are set to hold further talks with Vinicius Junior's representatives this week, with discussions focused on securing a new long-term contract for the Brazil international — while Arsenal are monitoring the situation with growing interest.

Vinicius Jr has entered the final year of his existing deal at the Bernabeu, placing the club in a delicate position. Manager Jose Mourinho wants to keep the winger, and Real Madrid are pushing hard for him to commit to new terms. However, if no agreement is reached, the Spanish giants could consider selling rather than risk losing him for free at the end of next season.

Arsenal's left-wing pursuit

Arsenal, the reigning Premier League champions, are actively looking to bolster their left-wing options this summer and have identified Vinicius Jr as a top target. The 2024 Ballon d'Or runner-up is widely regarded as one of the finest players in that position in world football.

Sky Sports' Peter Smith described the prospect as a "jaw-dropping" potential addition for the Gunners. With Vinicius Jr's contract set to expire next summer, Arsenal and other interested clubs may sense a rare window of opportunity to prise the Brazilian away from Madrid.

Wage demands raise serious questions

Spanish football expert Terry Gibson outlined the financial obstacle standing between Vinicius Jr and any potential move. The forward currently earns €15 million per year net, while Real Madrid have offered €20 million. Vinicius Jr, however, is reportedly seeking €30 million net — roughly €550,000 per week.

Real Madrid have not moved on that figure, and Gibson suggested matching those sums would be extremely difficult for any Premier League club, Arsenal included.

Diomande deal and the wider winger market

Sky Sports News has been told that Real Madrid's pursuit of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig is entirely separate from the Vinicius Jr situation. Madrid are said to be increasingly confident of completing a deal for Diomande this week after Paris Saint-Germain pulled out of the race on Sunday.

The winger market this summer has been unusually active. Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City had all previously been linked with Diomande, but his destination now appears to be the Bernabeu. Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, are expected to refocus their attention on Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche — a player Liverpool approached last week — though PSG will only make a bid at the right price.

Liverpool are also tracking Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, as is Arsenal, underlining just how competitive the market for wide attackers has become this transfer window.

Vinicius Jr and Mourinho's fresh start

Questions had been raised about Vinicius Jr's relationship with new Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho, particularly following an incident last season in which Vinicius Jr was abused by Mourinho's former Benfica midfielder Gianluca Prestianni. It is understood the two have since been in contact and are prepared to begin the 2026/27 campaign with a clean slate.

Nevertheless, with Arsenal's interest now public, the possibility of Vinicius Jr lining up in the Premier League next season is no longer a remote one — and that prospect is sure to sharpen focus on whatever Real Madrid and his camp decide in the coming days.
