Red Card, Two Penalties: The Key Decisions That Shaped England vs Mexico

England's World Cup last-16 clash with Mexico at the Azteca Stadium was packed with controversy — a red card, two penalties, and enough debate to last the rest of the tournament.
The Three Lions had raced into a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half, with Jude Bellingham netting twice in quick succession, before Julian Quinones pulled one back for Mexico just before the break. The second half, however, belonged to the officials as much as the players.
Quansah's red card
The first major flashpoint came in the 54th minute when Jarell Quansah was sent off after the video assistant referee flagged a dangerous challenge on Jesus Gallardo. Quansah's studs connected with Gallardo's shin, and referee Alireza Faghani had little choice but to show the red card after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor.
Darren Cann, who served as assistant referee in the 2010 World Cup final, was unequivocal in his analysis on BBC One.
