Robbie Ure: The Uncapped Scotsman Leading Sevilla's Attack

3 hours ago·1 min

Over the past decade, Sevilla's number nine shirt has been worn by internationals from Spain, France, Argentina, Mexico, and the Netherlands. Today, it belongs to an uncapped Scotsman.

Robbie Ure arrived in La Liga this month following a £5.5m move from Sirius, where he scored 20 goals and provided three assists in 20 matches this season. He has already made an impression at Sevilla, featuring in both of the club's opening La Liga victories.

A flying start in Spain

In Sevilla's first league match, Ure came on at half-time and won a stoppage-time penalty as his side edged Rayo Vallecano 2-1. A week later, he started for the first time and played the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 win over 10-man Athletic Club in Bilbao — a result that left Sevilla top of the table.

While his underlying numbers from that debut start were modest, his relentless pressing of Spain's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Unai Simon proved decisive, directly contributing to Sevilla's opening goal. The 22-year-old is still awaiting his first goal in Spain, though 31 strikes in 50 appearances for Sirius suggest that wait will be brief.

Scotland or Ukraine? Ure's international future

Ure's form has drawn international interest from more than one nation. He qualifies for Ukraine through his grandparents and has received approaches from the Ukrainian FA. However, the former Rangers academy player has made his preference clear.
