Roberto 'Pico' Lopes was one of the defining figures of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and his remarkable summer has continued in spectacular fashion since returning to club football with Shamrock Rovers.

Cape Verde captured global attention with their performances in Group H and a memorable round of 32 clash against 2022 World Cup winners Argentina. The Blue Sharks fell 3-2 but pushed the champions into extra time in one of the tournament's most captivating contests.

No League of Ireland club had ever overturned a two-goal, first-leg deficit in a European tie.

Tuesday's second leg at Tallaght Stadium rewrote that record. With Lopes restored to the starting eleven, Rovers dismantled Floriana 5-1 to win the tie 5-3 on aggregate and advance with goals to spare. As RTE Sport noted after the match, Rovers
