Shakira and Burna Boy to Headline FIFA World Cup 2026 Opening Ceremony in Mexico City

FIFA has confirmed that Colombian superstar Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats icon Burna Boy will perform at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2026, set to take place at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June.
The two artists will perform Dai Dai — the official song of the tournament — roughly 90 minutes before Mexico and South Africa kick off the competition's first match, one of 104 games scheduled across the three host nations.
What 'Dai Dai' means
Dai Dai is an Italian phrase meaning "let's go" or "come on." Released in May, the track serves as the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Song in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million by the tournament's end to improve children's access to quality education and football opportunities worldwide.
A star-studded lineup
FIFA described the ceremony as a showcase of "exciting voices" from across the globe. The full performance roster includes Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Burna Boy, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, Shakira, and Tyla — all contributing to the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album.
Opening ceremonies will also precede the first matches played in the other two host nations, the USA and Canada.
Gates open early
FIFA has urged fans attending the Mexico City ceremony to arrive well ahead of kick-off. Gates will open four hours before the match, with the ceremony itself beginning at 11:30 local time. A range of activations, rewards, and pre-match entertainment will be on offer inside the stadium.
Beyond the opening ceremony, Shakira will return to the World Cup stage on Sunday, 19 July, headlining the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show alongside Madonna and BTS.
