Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has declared Erling Haaland unstoppable, predicting that the Manchester City striker could eventually surpass his all-time Premier League record of 260 goals — provided Haaland remains in England long enough.

Shearer described the Norwegian as the ideal centre-forward, citing his explosive pace, physical power, agility, and clinical movement inside the six-yard box. He also noted that Haaland had already broken the record for reaching 100 Premier League goals in the fewest games in the competition's history.

City's creativity fuels Haaland's numbers

Speaking about what makes Haaland's output possible, Shearer pointed to Manchester City's chance-creation as a key factor. "The more and more you watch him, the more you watch him live, the more you think he can get 40 or 45 goals because what City create is brilliant," Shearer said. "I am sitting there thinking, wow, it must be amazing to play in a team like this with the chances they create."

Shearer went further, suggesting that the service Haaland receives from his teammates would have elevated any elite striker's numbers — including his own. "I'd love to play in a team like that. I would get 40 or 50 goals in a season as well, like he is getting," he added. "He's a brilliant goal scorer."

Shearer holds the Premier League's all-time scoring record with 260 goals — a mark that has stood since his retirement in 2006. Despite the significance of his own achievement, the Newcastle United icon was candid about the prospect of Haaland overtaking him. "If Haaland stays in the Premier League for a number of years, I know he's signed a long contract, but if he stays the number of years that he is contracted to, then yeah, he'll break my record," Shearer acknowledged.

Haaland, who signed a long-term deal with Manchester City, has shown no signs of slowing down since arriving in the Premier League — making Shearer's prediction feel less like a compliment and more like a certainty.
