Shooting Stars have confirmed the appointment of Salisu Yusuf as their new technical adviser, bringing one of Nigerian football's most experienced coaches to the Ibadan club ahead of a demanding continental campaign.

Yusuf steps into the role previously held by Nurudeen Aweroro, who departed the five-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions earlier this season. The 64-year-old brings more than two decades of coaching experience, having begun his managerial career at Nasarawa United in 2002.

A career built across Nigerian football

Over the course of his career, Yusuf has managed several of Nigeria's top clubs — among them Kano Pillars, Rangers International, and Enyimba — before his most recent posting at Coton Sport in Benin.

At international level, he served as an assistant coach of the Super Eagles and also led the Super Eagles B team and Nigeria's U-23 side. His most prominent achievement in international management came in 2018, when he steered the home-based Super Eagles to the final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), where they were beaten by hosts Morocco.

CAF Confederation Cup on the horizon

Yusuf inherits a squad that finished third in the NPFL last season — a performance that earned the Oluyole Warriors a place in the CAF Confederation Cup. In the first preliminary round, Shooting Stars are set to face Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien, making Yusuf's arrival all the more timely.
