Silva Snatches Late Dortmund Draw as Kane's Penalty Miss Haunts Bayern in Der Klassiker

1 hour ago·2 min

Borussia Dortmund snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker on Saturday, with Fabio Silva's 89th-minute equaliser rescuing a point for Niko Kovac's side after Harry Kane squandered a penalty at the Allianz Arena.

Kane was the centre of attention before kick-off — making a solo entrance to honour his Ballon d'Or triumph — but the night turned into a Halloween horror show for Bayern's No. 9. His spot-kick struck the crossbar in the 57th minute, and Dortmund punished that miss to earn a share of the spoils.

A night of missed chances for Kane

Bayern had taken the lead through Konrad Laimer in the 38th minute after Michael Olise — who had already struck the post earlier — threaded a pass for the Austrian, who finished at the second attempt. Kane then stepped up from the penalty spot and sent his effort crashing against the bar.

Serhou Guirassy capitalised on Bayern's misfortune, firing a left-footed effort in the 60th minute to level things after Kane had been dispossessed in the build-up. Kane appeared to have put the nightmare behind him when his assist set up Dayot Upamecano to restore Bayern's lead in the 66th minute.

But Silva, introduced from the bench, had other ideas. The forward struck in the 89th minute to make it 2-2, and although Lennart Karl rattled the crossbar with the final kick of the match, Dortmund held on to claim a point and remain level with Bayern at the summit of the Bundesliga.

Dortmund goal ruled out, Bayern injuries mount

Earlier, Jobe Bellingham thought he had opened the scoring after a mix-up involving Upamecano, but VAR ruled the goal out after Carney Chukwuemeka was adjudged to have collided with the Bayern goalkeeper in the build-up.

The draw comes at a particularly testing moment for Bayern. Head coach Vincent Kompany remains sidelined through illness, and the injury list continued to grow on the night — Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry both went off in the first half, joining Luis Diaz on the treatment table.

Bayern had been averaging more than five goals per home game this season heading into Der Klassiker, and this was a prime opportunity to open a gap over their fiercest rivals. Instead, Silva's late intervention — aided by Kane's uncharacteristic wastefulness — means both sides remain identical on points at the top of the table.
