Sporting have steadied their UEFA Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk — a result made all the more remarkable given that the club had dismissed their head coach just 24 hours earlier.

The Portuguese side showed resilience in difficult circumstances, travelling to face Shakhtar Donetsk and returning with all three points despite the upheaval in the dugout.

The win offers Sporting a timely boost as they look to regroup following the sudden managerial departure, with players rallying to deliver a result that keeps their European ambitions firmly alive.
