Super Eagles Arrive in Warsaw Ahead of Poland Friendly

2 weeks ago·1 min

Wilfred Ndidi led 18 Super Eagles players into camp in Warsaw on Monday as Nigeria began preparations for Wednesday's friendly against Poland at the Stadion PGE Narodowy.

The 58,000-capacity arena will host only the second senior meeting between these two nations. Their only previous encounter came on 23 March 2018, when Nigeria defeated Poland 1-0 in Wroclaw during a warm-up fixture ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with Victor Moses scoring the decisive goal.

Who is in camp

Eighteen players checked in at the Super Eagles' Warsaw Presidential Hotel by Monday lunchtime. Captain Ndidi was joined by goalkeepers Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho, and Arthur Okonkwo; defenders Bruno Onyemaechi, Zaidu Sanusi, Emmanuel Fernandez, and Igoh Ogbu; midfielders Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, and Tochukwu Nnadi; and forwards Moses Simon, Paul Onuachu, Jerome Akor Adams, Terem Moffi, and Rafiu Durosinmi.

Defender Semi Ajayi — whose Hull City FC recently secured promotion back to the English Premiership — arrived after lunch to a warm welcome from his teammates. Fresh invitee Abdullahi Bewene also reported later in the day. Neither Ajayi nor Bewene featured in Monday evening's opening training session.

The squad put in 80 minutes of work under light rain at the Stadion Polinii Warsawa. Tuesday's session is scheduled to take place at the match venue itself.

Chelle's winning mentality

Head coach Eric Chelle arrives in Warsaw buoyed after steering Nigeria to retain the Unity Cup in London. The Franco-Malian coach spoke with conviction about the standards he is demanding from his squad.
