Switzerland are through to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after edging Colombia 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a match that could not be separated in normal time.

The shootout proved a nerve-shredding affair, with Switzerland ultimately holding their nerve to secure their place in the last eight of the tournament.

Colombia, who had battled hard throughout the match, were left heartbroken as their World Cup campaign came to an end at the shootout stage.

Switzerland will now face the challenge of a quarter-final tie as they continue their pursuit of a historic deep run at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
