James Tarkowski rescued Everton a point at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, heading home a stoppage-time equaliser to deny Bournemouth victory on Marco Rose's first Premier League home match in charge.

Alex Scott had given the hosts the lead with a composed finish just before the interval, and Bournemouth appeared well-placed to claim all three points — until Tarkowski struck in added time to level proceedings.

Early Everton pressure

Everton made the brighter start and came close to opening the scoring on two occasions. Goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic first denied Jarrad Branthwaite's header from a corner, then produced another excellent stop to keep out Iliman Ndiaye.

Bournemouth had not been without their own opportunities. Jordan Pickford did well to deny Rayan at the other end, but the pattern of the half continued to be shaped by Petrovic's reflexes — the goalkeeper pulling off a stunning double save, thwarting Tyrique George's goal-bound effort before reacting quickly to deny Barry from point-blank range.

Scott puts Bournemouth ahead

The breakthrough arrived shortly before the break, and it was Evanilson who created it. The striker turned Tarkowski before rolling the ball across for Scott, who showed remarkable composure to take an extra touch and slot into the far corner.

Barry continued to threaten after the interval but found Petrovic in inspired form, the goalkeeper getting down well to deny the striker — who was later replaced by Beto — after Armstrong had played him through.

Tarkowski denies the hosts

Bournemouth almost wrapped the game up late on when Evanilson's effort deflected behind. That miss proved costly.

From the resulting corner, Bournemouth failed to clear and Tarkowski reacted first to smash home a late equaliser, snatching a hard-fought point for Everton and ending Rose's home debut without a victory.

James Garner had replaced Hayden Hackney in midfield for Everton, partnering Nottingham Forest transfer target Harrison Armstrong. Bournemouth, meanwhile, were unchanged from the side that suffered defeat to Manchester City on the opening weekend.
