Trippier Suffers Knee Injury on Wolverhampton Wanderers League Debut

10 hours ago·1 min

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that right-back Kieran Trippier sustained a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in his left knee during Friday's 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers — his first league appearance for the club.

The 35-year-old, who joined Wolves on a free transfer in June, is expected to miss a number of weeks as a result of the injury.

Defender Yerson Mosquera suffered a setback in the same match, sustaining a slight tear to his ankle ligaments. The 25-year-old is also facing several weeks on the sidelines.

Positive signs for Said

Wolves director of performance Phil Hayward offered more encouraging news regarding winger Rafiki Said, who had suffered a high-grade MCL injury during a pre-season friendly against Maidenhead United — just 11 days after signing for the club.

"Rafiki's been working very hard in the gym for the last few weeks with his brace on. He's now out of the brace and the most recent scan looks great, so he's heading, certainly, in the right direction," Hayward said.

Further injury updates

Hayward also confirmed that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone remains approximately one week away from full fitness. Haiti international midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is expected to return to first-team training within a couple of weeks.
