Tuchel Urges England Players to Holiday in US Time Zones Ahead of World Cup

5 days ago·2 min

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has urged his World Cup squad members to spend their post-season holidays in the United States or the Caribbean, with acclimatisation to American time zones a central concern ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026.

The advice is grounded in logistics: England's tournament training base will be in Kansas City, Missouri — six hours behind UK time — and their opening Group L fixture against Croatia on 17 June will be played in Dallas, which sits in the same time zone. The remaining group games against Ghana and Panama, to be held in Boston and New Jersey respectively, operate five hours behind the UK.

Florida camp and warm-up matches

A total of 21 of England's 26-man squad are due to arrive in Florida on Monday for a pre-tournament training camp in West Palm Beach. Tuchel's side will face New Zealand on 6 June and Costa Rica on 10 June as part of their warm-up programme.

Weather is expected to be a significant factor throughout the tournament. Studies suggest that close to a quarter of all World Cup matches could be contested in temperatures exceeding 26°C, making early adaptation all the more critical for squads travelling from Europe.

Late arrivals from European finals

Five players will join the Florida camp at a later stage after featuring in European finals this week. Arsenal quartet Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and Bukayo Saka, along with Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson, will link up with the group once their club commitments conclude.

Premier League players Alex Scott, Jason Steele, Rio Ngumoha, Josh King, and Ethan Nwaneri are also set to join the squad for the West Palm Beach training camp.
