1 hour ago·1 min

Super Eagles midfielder Usman Mohammed has sealed a return to Israeli Premier League club Maccabi Bnei Reineh, signing a two-year deal on a free transfer after his contract with fellow Israeli side Ironi Tiberias expired.

Mohammed is no stranger to Maccabi Bnei Reineh — he represented the club between 2023 and 2025, making 63 league appearances and scoring three goals across that first spell. The 32-year-old established himself as one of manager Lior Reuven's most dependable midfielders during that period.

A familiar face returns

His comeback is timed to bolster Reuven's squad ahead of the 2026/27 Israeli Premier League campaign, as Maccabi Bnei Reineh look to build on the progress made in recent seasons.

Mohammed brings considerable experience from a well-travelled career that has taken him through clubs in Europe and Asia since he left Nigeria, where he came through the ranks at Taraba United. Renowned for his composure in possession, intelligent passing range, and tireless work rate, he offers both quality and leadership in the middle of the park.

International pedigree

On the international stage, Mohammed has represented Nigeria at two significant tournaments. He was part of the Super Eagles U-23 squad that claimed bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and he featured for the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, further cementing his standing as an experienced international.

His return to familiar surroundings at Maccabi Bnei Reineh is expected to provide the midfield stability the club needs as they prepare for the demands of the coming season.
