Valencia are in active discussions with Liverpool over a loan move for midfielder Harvey Elliott that would run through the remainder of the current season.

Elliott, 23, has found himself on the fringes at Anfield despite featuring in Liverpool's pre-season under new head coach Andoni Iraola. He has since been omitted from the squad for Liverpool's first two Premier League fixtures of the campaign.

The 23-year-old is familiar with loan football, having spent last season at Aston Villa — though his time there yielded only one Premier League start.

Wage split the key sticking point

Valencia have been working through the financial logistics of the deal, with the Spanish club pushing for Liverpool to cover half of Elliott's wages during the loan period.

The club finished 12th in La Liga last season and did not qualify for European competition, making financial flexibility a key consideration as they navigate the transfer market.

Time is pressing for both parties. La Liga's transfer window closes on Tuesday at 23:00 BST, leaving little room for further negotiation before the deadline.
