Germany has a rich tradition of spectacular tifo displays — from Borussia Dortmund's iconic Yellow Wall to the choreographies that light up Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena. But second-division side VfL Osnabruck may have set an entirely new benchmark with a tifo featuring a fully functional rollercoaster.

The display was unveiled before their German Cup first-round tie against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, a match Osnabruck ultimately lost 4-1. The tifo stretched across the Bremer Brucke stadium and carried the message: VfL Osnabruck – a rollercoaster ride!

How the tifo worked

A wooden cart travelled along a track in front of the East Stand, built from wooden slats, plastic piping, and fabric. The structure was designed in sections to allow it to be rolled out smoothly before the game.

The cart itself was made primarily from wood and styrofoam, carried dummies, and was driven back and forth on a continuous loop using a push-and-pull system — giving the impression of an actual fairground ride.
