Vinicius Jr has committed his future to Real Madrid, signing a new six-year contract that ties the Brazil winger to the club until 30 June 2032.

The 24-year-old — who had entered the final year of his previous deal — had attracted attention from Arsenal in recent weeks, but those hopes have now been firmly extinguished following Thursday's announcement.

Real Madrid confirmed the agreement in an official statement, describing Vinicius as "one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history." The player himself marked the occasion on Instagram: "Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short… Six more years, and then forever."

Deal breakthrough after months of talks

Negotiations had stalled over the past 18 months before Real Madrid tabled a fresh offer on Wednesday, which Vinicius is understood to have welcomed. He returned to the club on Monday for pre-season training and a medical assessment after representing Brazil at the World Cup.

Vinicius originally arrived at Real from Flamengo in 2018 and had signed one previous contract extension three years ago. He has since made 375 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 128 goals. At international level, he has 13 goals in 54 caps for Brazil.

His trophy haul at Real Madrid includes two UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, and one Copa del Rey.

Arsenal must look elsewhere

It is understood Arsenal would have moved decisively for Vinicius had he turned down Real Madrid's offer. The Premier League champions, who are seeking a left-sided forward, must now pursue alternative targets.

Diomande arrival and Rodri pursuit

Vinicius' renewal was announced on the same day Real Madrid confirmed the signing of Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for a fee of up to £120 million. Diomande becomes the sixth summer arrival under new head coach Jose Mourinho, joining Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, and Carlos Espi.

Real Madrid are also in pursuit of Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, though they now face competition for his signature from rivals Barcelona.
