Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has hit out at Wrexham, accusing them of a "blanket bombing" approach to the transfer window after the Red Dragons lodged a £6.5 million bid for Callum O'Hare.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson is eager to strengthen his attacking midfield options before Tuesday night's transfer deadline, and O'Hare is one of several players the club have targeted in the final days of the window.

"This is not a criticism, but Wrexham are in for half the division," Wilder said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sheffield United's home Championship fixture against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday. "I know there have been bids on other players from that football club in that position as well, so maybe it's a bit of blanket bombing in that position and see what comes up."

Wilder wants O'Hare to stay

Despite the offer on the table, Wilder made clear he has no desire to part ways with the 28-year-old. O'Hare has featured in all five of Sheffield United's matches across all competitions so far this season, scoring in the Blades' draw with Cardiff City and in their EFL Cup first-round win over Mansfield Town on 9 August.

"He's a good player so I'm not surprised there's been interest," Wilder said. "I wouldn't want him to go, but I understand there's a bid in and it'll be dealt with by the certain people who deal with these things."

Wilder added that he has instructed O'Hare to focus on the Bolton Wanderers fixture: "It's not a done deal. I've notified Cal to get his head down and get his head on and focus on playing for us on Tuesday night. If that changes, then that changes."

The former Aston Villa, Carlisle United, and Coventry City midfielder still has two years remaining on his contract at Bramall Lane, giving Sheffield United considerable leverage in any negotiations.

A history of subtle digs at Parkinson

This is not the first time Wilder has taken a swipe at Wrexham manager Parkinson — a former team-mate of his at Southampton in the 1980s. Ahead of Sheffield United's Championship match with Cardiff City last Saturday, Wilder challenged Parkinson's assessment of Wrexham's opening-weekend defeat to Cardiff in the 2026-27 season.

"I watched the game against Wrexham, I thought it was one-way traffic for 20 minutes," Wilder said. "The second half, I didn't agree with what the Wrexham manager said — I don't usually anyway — in terms of that it was a one-sided game. I thought he should give the opposition a little bit more credit and respect."
