Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has pointed to his side's inability to take their chances as the defining reason for South Africa's early exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Hugo Broos' side fell at the Round of 32, beaten 1-0 by co-hosts Canada at the Los Angeles Stadium on Sunday. Stephen Eustáquio's goal in the 92nd minute settled the contest and sent South Africa home.
The result capped a disappointing attacking return for Bafana Bafana, who scored only two goals across four matches at the tournament — with just one of those coming from open play.
Williams rues missed opportunities
Speaking to journalists after the final whistle, Williams acknowledged that Canada's sharpness in front of goal exposed a gap between the two sides.
