Manchester City have named Enzo Maresca as their new manager, handing the 46-year-old Italian a three-year contract to succeed Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium. City will pay Chelsea more than £17 million (€20 million) in compensation as part of the arrangement, according to Sky in Italy.
Maresca departed Stamford Bridge on New Year's Day by mutual consent, leaving Chelsea fifth in the Premier League — five places above where they ultimately finished — with three and a half years remaining on his contract. During his one full season with the Blues, he guided them to the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The appointment reunites Maresca with a club he knows intimately. He managed City's Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title in 2020/21 before returning as Guardiola's assistant during the treble-winning 2022/23 campaign, when City claimed the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League in Istanbul.
