The Adidas Trionda — the official ball of the 2026 FIFA World Cup — is attracting serious attention for all the wrong reasons, with a growing number of goalkeepers failing to hold shots they have managed to get a hand to.
England's Jordan Pickford, Senegal's Edouard Mendy, and Algeria's Luca Zidane are among the high-profile keepers who have conceded after making contact with the ball. Zidane has been beaten in this manner twice already — against Argentina and Jordan — while Mendy was similarly undone by a Kylian Mbappe effort. Pickford, too, could not keep out Croatia's opener despite getting a touch.
Iraq goalkeeper Ahmed Basil suffered the same fate against Mbappe's long-range attempt, prompting BBC Sport pundit and former England keeper Joe Hart to voice his suspicions.
