Wrexham are on the verge of completing two significant summer signings, with Burkina Faso international Issa Kabore set to join from Manchester City on a permanent basis and left-back Jacques Ekomie poised to arrive from French club Angers.

Kabore's journey to a permanent deal

Kabore, 25, spent last season on loan with the Red Dragons, making 32 appearances across all competitions and recording eight Championship assists — more than any other Wrexham player. He is now expected to make his stay in north Wales indefinite, ending a seven-loan odyssey that began when he moved to Manchester City from Mechelen in 2020.

Since that move, Kabore has been sent out to Troyes, Marseille, Luton Town, Benfica, and Werder Bremen before arriving at the Racecourse Ground on transfer deadline day in September last year. He departs the Etihad Stadium without a senior appearance for the club to his name.

The right-back — deployed as a wing-back by manager Phil Parkinson — announced himself to Wrexham's supporters in memorable fashion, setting up two goals on debut as his side came from behind to beat Norwich City 3-2 at Carrow Road. A hamstring injury sustained on international duty in November interrupted his momentum, but the 55-cap international returned at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations before contributing strongly in the second half of the campaign.

Ekomie a target despite rival interest

Ekomie, 23, enters the final year of his contract at Angers and has attracted reported attention from Championship rivals West Ham United and German outfit Hamburg. The Gabon international began his career at Bordeaux before making a top-flight move to Angers in the summer of 2024.

After 21 appearances in his debut season, Ekomie played in all but two of Angers' Ligue 1 fixtures in 2025-26, starting 25 of his 32 league outings. His arrival would ease pressure on Parkinson's left-flank options, where midfielder George Thomason has filled in as a makeshift wing-back due to the persistent injury issues of New Zealand international Liberato Cacace.

Cacace, who joined from Empoli in the summer of 2025, started only eight of Wrexham's 46 league games last season and has missed all three of their fixtures so far this term, despite having two years remaining on his contract.

Window challenges and further business

Parkinson acknowledged ahead of the 1-1 draw with Watford that the window had proved "difficult," with several deals collapsing. Speaking after the match, he cautioned that there were "no guarantees" additional signings would arrive before the 23:00 BST deadline on 1 September.

Kabore and Ekomie are expected to join full-back Danny Imray, goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, and midfielder Ben Whiteman as summer additions at the Racecourse Ground. Wrexham may also pursue reinforcements in midfield and attack before the window closes.

Parkinson's side return to Championship action on Friday night when they host Birmingham City at the Racecourse Ground (20:00 BST).
