Xabi Alonso has urged those around Chelsea to exercise patience as his tenure as head coach officially begins with the club's pre-season trip to Sydney this week.

The former midfielder, who takes charge of one of the Premier League's most scrutinised clubs, signalled that building his project at Stamford Bridge will require time and understanding from all quarters.
