Nigerian winger Yira Sor has officially signed for Turkish Super Lig club Amedspor, departing Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Genk in what is becoming a notable summer for Nigerian talent in Turkey.

Amedspor announced the deal on their official X account on Monday, confirming the 26-year-old's arrival at the club.

Part of a growing Nigerian presence in Turkey

Sor is one of several Nigerian players to make the move to Turkish football this summer. Kelechi Iheanacho has joined second-division side Bursaspor, Chidozie Awaziem has moved to Konyaspor, and Gift Orban now also represents Amedspor.

During his final season at Genk, Sor made 28 appearances in the Belgian top flight, contributing four goals and one assist.

A career built across borders

Sor began his footballing journey at Family Love Academy in Port Harcourt before moving on to 36 Lion in Lagos. In February 2021, he secured a move to Czech First League club Baník Ostrava.

His performances in the first half of the 2021–22 season — three league goals and five assists — caught the attention of Slavia Prague, who completed his signing on 21 January 2022 on a contract running until December 2026. It was from Slavia Prague that he eventually moved to Genk.

International recognition

At youth level, Sor represented Nigeria's Flying Eagles at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, making two appearances. He has also earned one senior cap for the Super Eagles, featuring in a friendly against Jordan in March 2026.
