Akor Adams registered his first Serie A goal on Friday night, but the milestone proved bittersweet as Venezia were beaten 4-2 at home by Fiorentina — extending both sides' miserable starts to the season.

Both clubs had entered the match without a single point from their opening three league fixtures, making the contest a must-win encounter for either side hoping to escape the foot of the table.

Adams strikes against the run of play

Fiorentina controlled the early exchanges, creating chances through Beto, Franco Mastantuono, Alex Jimenez, and Cher Ndour. Yet it was Venezia who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, against the flow of the game.

Adams, Venezia's record signing and Nigeria international, collected a pass on the right side of the area and drove a composed first-time finish into the far corner — a goal worthy of marking any debut in Italian football.

Mastantuono hat-trick kills the contest

Fiorentina hit back emphatically. Mastantuono struck twice in quick succession — in the 29th and 30th minutes — to flip the scoreline and put the visitors in front. Mateo Pellegrino then stretched the lead to 3-1 in the 66th minute, effectively putting the match beyond Venezia's reach.

With six minutes remaining, Mastantuono completed a remarkable hat-trick to make it 4-1. Antoine Hainaut pulled one back for Venezia in the 87th minute, but it was no more than a consolation as the hosts slipped to a fourth consecutive Serie A defeat.

For Adams, the goal offers a personal highlight amid a difficult beginning to his Venezia career. For Fiorentina, the victory finally ended their own winless run and delivered a statement performance from their teenage star Mastantuono.
