Sergio Aguero believes his legacy at Manchester City is far from finished — and that the club's continued dominance at the summit of English football is the engine keeping it alive.

The Argentine forward left City in 2021 after ten years at the club, during which he scored 260 goals in 390 appearances and claimed five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and six League Cups. Few players in the history of the division have left a mark as deep.

Yet Aguero insists his story did not end the day he signed for Barcelona. As long as City keep winning, he argues, the generation of players who helped build the club's modern dynasty will remain in the conversation.

Aguero's view on legacy

"I left in 2021, after 10 happy years, but I want City to continue to be successful," Aguero told FourFourTwo.

He sees a direct line between City's present achievements and the reputation of those who laid the foundations before them — the squad that ended the club's four-decade wait for a top-flight title.

"If they keep winning titles and signing really good players, even now, that also continues to increase my legacy at the club."

The connection runs both ways. Aguero is equally candid about what a downturn in City's fortunes would mean for those who came before the current era.

"If they go down the wrong path, people won't talk about City as much any more. The longer City are at the top, the more people talk about the club, and the more they talk about those of us who played for the club."

Crucially, Aguero frames this not as personal ambition but as collective pride — a nod to the teammates who shared in those trophy-laden years alongside him in Manchester.

"For myself and the other guys who I played with, our names will continue to be up there."

For a player who delivered some of the most iconic moments in Premier League history, the sentiment is clear: Aguero's bond with Manchester City runs well beyond his final appearance in sky blue.
