Speaking to The Mirror in August, Alexander-Arnold left no ambiguity about his commitment. "Until I retire, I'm still an England player, whether I'm selected or not," he said. "I'm always available if and when the manager needs me. There's no bigger honour."

That statement — made while the dust was still settling on the summer tournament — now reads as the starting point of his international comeback. Tuchel has responded by welcoming him back into the fold as England freshen up their Nations League squad.
