Alonso Backs Fernandez to Stay as He Sets Out Chelsea Vision

Xabi Alonso made his feelings clear on Monday: Enzo Fernandez has a future at Chelsea. Speaking at his first press conference as the club's new manager at Stamford Bridge, Alonso confirmed he has already held talks with the 25-year-old Argentina midfielder and wants him to remain at the club.
Fernandez, currently preparing for the World Cup semi-final clash between Argentina and England, has been linked with a return to Real Madrid. However, the Spanish giants distanced themselves from any pursuit last week, leaving Fernandez with few apparent options and a £120 million asking price attached to his name.
When asked directly whether he wanted to keep Fernandez, Alonso answered simply: "Yes." He added: "We have spoken. But, as you can understand, what we said will remain private."
Jackson stays, Garnacho seeks exit
Alonso also confirmed that striker Nicolas Jackson will feature in Chelsea's pre-season programme. Bayern Munich opted against making Jackson's loan deal permanent, and Alonso said the forward is set to join the squad for at least part of their upcoming tour of Australia and Asia.
"Nico Jackson is joining the tour in Asia and we are looking forward to him working with us," Alonso said.
The picture is different for winger Alejandro Garnacho, who has not reported for training since Alonso officially began work last Thursday. The new manager confirmed an arrangement is in place for Garnacho to train away from the first-team squad as he pursues a transfer. Roma are among the clubs believed to hold an interest in the Argentine winger.
"There is interest in him from other clubs. Hopefully it finishes in the best possible way for everyone," Alonso said.
Building from a strong base
Alonso, who left Real Madrid in January before being appointed at Stamford Bridge, set out his ambitions for the season ahead. Qualifying for European competition is his primary goal, and he expressed gratitude to the club's sporting directors and ownership for placing their trust in him.
"I want to enjoy it, be part of this club and work with the sporting directors. It is a club with great potential. We need to make the right decisions, but we have a strong base to build on. We need to build on this foundation to be successful on the pitch," he said.
