Elliot Anderson has put an end to any speculation about a potential move to Manchester United, confirming he never seriously considered a switch to Old Trafford before completing his £116 million transfer from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City.

The England midfielder revealed he had a chance encounter with several United players while on a golfing holiday in Portugal, but their efforts to attract him to the red side of Manchester were fruitless.

"I was just golfing in Portugal and bumped into a few and had a nice chat and stuff like that, but I had a decision to make and I chose City," Anderson said.

When pressed on whether United came close to changing his mind, Anderson's answer was blunt: "No."

Big price tag, no pressure

Despite arriving as one of the most expensive signings in English football, Anderson insists he is not burdened by the weight of his record fee.

"No, I'm feeling comfortable. I want to show everyone what I can do and try not to focus on it too much. But I'm sure over the season I can show people what I do best," he said.

The midfielder, who started every one of England's World Cup fixtures apart from the third-place playoff victory over France — including the semi-final defeat to Argentina — appears settled and eager for the challenge ahead.

"It's been a bit different, but I'm enjoying it. I'm taking it all in my stride. Just feeling confident, I'm happy to be here and I'm just looking forward to the season," Anderson added.

Community Shield debut on the horizon

Anderson is set to make his Manchester City debut in Sunday's Community Shield against Arsenal in Cardiff — a high-profile stage on which to begin life at his new club.
