Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has declared himself ready to hit the ground running at Ajax, following the completion of a season-long loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers that includes an optional purchase clause worth around €22 million.

Speaking in his first interview with the club, Arokodare was unable to contain his delight at joining one of European football's most storied institutions.

"I'm currently a player of Ajax. Because it's just an amazing feeling, like I said. I never imagined, but… it's just an amazing feeling,"

The Nigerian forward also acknowledged the weight of history at the club, pointing to the legendary strikers who have worn Ajax colours before him.

"There's been so many big names that have played here, so many big strikers that have played for this team that have really represented the team well, and we know about the amazing and huge talents that they can produce. So, I can't wait to get started, get going with the team, with the players, hopefully score some goals, win games and get back to being at the top of the table."

The eighth Super Eagles player to don Ajax colours

Arokodare's arrival makes him the eighth Nigeria international to represent Ajax, joining an illustrious list that includes Finidi George, Nwankwo Kanu, Christopher Kanu, Sunday Oliseh, Tijani Babangida, Pius Ikedia, and Calvin Bassey.

The 24-year-old joins the Amsterdam club after a difficult debut season in the Premier League. Arokodare managed only three league goals as Wolverhampton Wanderers were relegated, having joined the English club in a £24 million transfer from Genk.

Ajax will be hoping the change of scenery revives the best of the powerful centre-forward, whose form at Genk first alerted top European clubs to his potential.
