Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Barcelona defender Jules Koundé, in a deal that would simultaneously deny Arsenal a long-standing transfer target.

Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Spurs are considering a bid in the region of €65 million for the versatile Frenchman, who can operate at right-back or in central defence — exactly the kind of defensive flexibility both North London clubs are seeking this summer.

Spurs' defensive rebuild gathers pace

Tottenham have already moved to address their defensive needs following the departure of captain Cristian Romero, securing Jan Paul van Hecke as his replacement. However, Spurs' recruitment drive may not stop there, with the report suggesting manager Roberto De Zerbi is keen on Koundé for his ability to cover multiple positions across the backline.

Whether the move happens at all depends largely on Barcelona's own transfer priorities. The Catalan club are expected to pursue a centre-forward before the window closes, and a bid of €60 million or above for Koundé would reportedly be given serious consideration at Camp Nou. Arsenal's defensive headache
