Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare has departed for Dutch football, joining Ajax on loan for the 2026-27 season. The Eredivisie club hold an option to sign the Nigeria international on a permanent basis at the end of the deal.

Arokodare arrived at Molineux in September 2025 in a £24 million move from Belgian side Genk, where he had been in outstanding form — scoring 31 league goals across 79 appearances. Wolves tied him down on a four-year contract, but he struggled to transfer that prolific touch to the Premier League, netting only three times in 33 outings as the club were relegated to the Championship.

A turbulent spell in the West Midlands

His time at Wolves was marked by more than poor form on the pitch. In April, Arokodare was disciplined by the club following a confrontation with fellow forward Mateus Mane. More recently, a Wolves training session was reportedly cancelled after the striker refused to leave the pitch — an allegation he strongly denied.

In a statement published on social media, Arokodare said: "Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards."

A fresh start in Amsterdam

Ajax, who finished fifth in the Eredivisie last term, will compete in the Europa League Conference this season, provided they come through the qualifying play-offs. The loan move offers Arokodare a chance to rebuild his confidence and rediscover the form that made him one of Belgian football's most lethal strikers.
