Arsenal Denied Clear Penalty in Hull City Win, Says Former Referee

39 minutes ago·1 min

Former Premier League assistant referee Darren Cann has argued that Arsenal were denied a legitimate penalty during their 1-0 victory over Hull City, with a foul on Kai Havertz going unpunished inside the box.

Cann, who spent years working at the top level of English football officiating, broke down the incident and concluded that the contact on Havertz was sufficient to warrant a spot-kick. The decision — or rather the absence of one — went against the Premier League champions on the day.

Despite the oversight, Arsenal still claimed all three points, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table with the narrow win at the KC Stadium.

Havertz, who has been a key figure in Arsenal's title charge this season, was involved in the disputed moment that Cann believes referees and their assistants should have acted upon. The Germany international has been central to the club's attacking play throughout the campaign.

Arsenal's ability to grind out results even when decisions go against them underlines the resilience that has carried them to the summit of English football. The 1-0 win against Hull City continued that trend, keeping the pressure on their rivals further down the table.
