Mikel Arteta has moved to ease supporter concerns over his future at Arsenal, insisting he is fully committed to the club and that his contract situation will be resolved without fuss.

The Arsenal manager is in the final 12 months of the deal he signed in 2024, yet he struck a composed tone ahead of Sunday's Community Shield clash against Manchester City, telling reporters: "They don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here, I'm extremely happy."

Arteta added that his desire to remain at Arsenal is mutual: "My feeling from the club is the same one, so that's why everybody is doing things in a really organic way."

Contract talks on the back burner

The Spaniard explained that the timing of formal renewal talks simply reflects the club's current priorities rather than any uncertainty on either side. "There's always another priority, I think, and that's the way we've been treating it," he said. "Everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue."

Arteta has been at the helm since 2019 and delivered Arsenal's first Premier League title in 22 years last season — a campaign that also saw the Gunners reach the UEFA Champions League final, where they fell to Paris St-Germain.

Summer business and squad ambitions

With the transfer window open until 1 September, Arsenal have moved decisively to strengthen the squad. Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has arrived from Newcastle, winger Christos Tzolis — a Greece international — has joined from Club Brugge, and Piero Hincapie's loan from Bayern Leverkusen has been made permanent, with the three deals totalling £143.5 million.

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has also come in on a free transfer from Leeds United. Meanwhile, Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, and Christian Norgaard have all departed from last season's squad.

A pursuit of Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr proved unsuccessful, and the club continue to monitor defensive options — with Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa and Jarell Quansah of Bayer Leverkusen among targets as Arsenal manage injuries to William Saliba and Jurrien Timber.

Arteta made clear that the drive to improve the roster is directly tied to the club's ambitions at the highest level. "The ambition of the club is big — we want to improve the squad, we want to evolve the squad in order to achieve that," he said. "We have detected some areas that can be strengthened and that's what we are trying to do."
